Terms of Service for My Bedtime Books
Last updated: 6 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and My Bedtime Books when you use our site or buy a book. Please read section 5, which explains exactly when you can get your money back, and section 7, which explains what you are telling us when you upload a photograph.
1. Who can order
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract. By ordering you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child in the photograph, or that you have their parent or guardian’s permission to use it.
2. What you are buying
Each personalized book includes:
- a premium 8×8 inch hardcover, 24 pages, printed and shipped to you;
- an interactive illustrated read-along edition you can open on any device; and
- a personalized audiobook narrated with your child’s name.
The digital edition and audiobook are included in the price. They are not sold separately and are not an upsell.
Our stories are our own retellings of tales that are in the public domain. They are not connected with, endorsed by or derived from any film, television or stage adaptation.
3. Prices and payment
Prices are in US dollars. One book is $34.99 as a softcover or $44.99 as a hardcover. The matching activity book is $15 added to a book. Orders of two stories receive 5% off and orders of three or more receive 10%, and the total for your basket is shown before you pay.
Shipping is included free on every order. Sales tax is calculated at checkout from your shipping address; the rate depends on your state and some states do not tax books. The full amount, shipping and tax included, is shown before you confirm payment.
Payment is taken by Stripe. We never receive or store your card details. Your order is not confirmed until payment succeeds.
4. How your book gets made, and the two points where you approve it
This matters, because it is where your protection sits.
Before you pay, you can read sample pages of the story on our website with your child’s name already in them. Those sample pages show our words, not your child’s illustrations — those do not exist until we have a photograph to draw from.
After you pay, nothing is manufactured until you have seen the real thing and said yes, twice:
- You order, pay, and upload a photograph.
- We draw your child’s character — their StoryLikeness™ — and email you to look at it. Nothing is printed until you approve it. If it is not right, you can ask us to redraw it, up to three times, at no cost.
- We illustrate the whole book and show you a preview of every page. Again, nothing is printed until you approve that preview.
- Only then is the book sent to our printer.
If you never approve, we never print and we never keep your money. See section 5.
5. Satisfaction guarantee, refunds and cancellation
You can cancel for a full refund at any time before your book is sent to the printer — that is, at any point during step 2 or 3 above. Just ask. You do not need a reason.
In particular, you get your money back in full if you do not like the finished result. You see every page of your child’s completed book before it is printed, and if it is not what you hoped for you can decline it and be refunded. You are never asked to pay for a book you have seen and do not want.
The same applies if we simply cannot get the illustration right: if we cannot produce a version of your child you are happy with, we refund you in full.
Once you have approved the preview and the book has been sent to the printer, it is being manufactured specifically for you with your child’s name and face in it, and it can no longer be cancelled or returned. This is the point of no return, and it is in your hands, not ours.
That is separate from things going wrong. If your book arrives damaged, misprinted, incomplete or different from the preview you approved, we will replace it free of charge. Tell us within 30 days of delivery and send a photograph of the problem.
Nothing here affects statutory rights you may have under the consumer law of your own country.
6. Delivery
We currently ship to the contiguous United States only — the lower 48 states and the District of Columbia. We cannot ship to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, the US territories or military addresses. If an order is placed to one of those, we will contact you and refund it in full.
Printing and binding take 4–5 business days after you approve your preview, and standard delivery is a further 2–5 days — so about one to two weeks from your approval. These are estimates and not guarantees; we are not liable for carrier delays. Risk of loss passes to you on delivery.
Check your shipping address carefully. We cannot change it once the book is with the printer, and we cannot replace a book free of charge if it was sent to an address you gave us incorrectly.
7. Your photograph and the rights you give us
You keep every right you have in the photograph you upload. You give us a limited license to store it, process it, and use it to create the illustrations, the book, the digital edition and the audiobook you have ordered — and nothing else.
We do not use your photographs for marketing, we do not sell them, and we do not use them to train AI models. We delete the original photograph after 14 days. The illustrated character is kept for 365 days from its last use so that another book can reuse it, and we will delete it sooner if you ask. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
You confirm you have the right to upload the photograph and the dedication text you give us, and that neither infringes anyone else’s rights.
8. Illustrations are AI-generated
The illustrations are produced by an AI image model working from your photograph and from our written descriptions. They are an artist’s impression in a watercolor style, not a portrait and not a reproduction of the photograph. Likeness varies, which is exactly why we show you the character and the full preview before anything is printed.
9. What you may not send us
Do not upload photographs of anyone without the right to do so, images of adults where a child is expected, sexual or violent content, or anything unlawful. Do not use the dedication field for abusive, hateful, threatening or obscene text — it gets printed in a children’s book.
We may refuse or cancel any order that breaks this section, and will refund it.
10. Our content
The site, our retellings, our illustrations, our book designs, the My Bedtime Books name and StoryLikeness™ are our property or our licensors’. Your finished book, digital edition and audiobook are for your family’s personal use. You may read them aloud, lend them and give them as gifts. You may not resell them, reproduce them commercially or redistribute the digital files.
11. Digital edition and audiobook access
Your digital edition and audiobook are reached by a private link and the code printed in your book. Keep the code; anyone who has it can open that edition. We intend to keep these available indefinitely, but if we ever have to retire the service we will give at least 90 days’ notice and a way to download your files.
12. Limitation of liability
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
13. Indemnification
You agree to cover our reasonable losses arising from your breach of these terms, particularly from content you upload that you did not have the right to use.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new date, and will not apply retroactively to an order already placed. The terms that apply to your order are the ones in force when you paid.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Nothing in these terms limits any consumer rights you may have under applicable law.
16. Contact
